We’re proud to have played a part in the 2026 Southern Living Idea House in Fredericksburg, Texas, building the outdoor spaces for a home designed to capture the character of the Texas Hill Country. Read the full Southern Living article here.
Each year, the Southern Living Idea House brings together builders, architects, designers and brands to explore what thoughtful residential design can look like. For the 2026 home, that meant creating spaces that feel refined and beautiful while still being designed around the realities of living in Central Texas.
Building an Outdoor Space for the Texas Hill Country
For the decking, the project features TimberTech Advanced PVC Decking in Coastline from the Vintage Collection, paired with TimberTech aluminum framing and a clean, modern railing system.
The Coastline decking brings the warmth and texture of natural wood into the home’s modern Hill Country architecture while providing the durability and low-maintenance performance that makes sense for our climate.
That balance is something we think about on every Canopy Builders project.
An outdoor space shouldn’t feel like something that was added onto the house later. The materials, proportions, sightlines and architecture should all work together so the outdoor living space feels like it was always meant to be there.
Designed for the Way People Actually Live
One of our favorite elements of the Idea House is the connection between the interior and the back deck.
Large glass doors open the living areas directly into the outdoor space, creating a natural place for dinners, conversations, family gatherings or simply watching the sun go down over the Hill Country.
It’s a great example of what thoughtful outdoor living design can accomplish.
The goal isn’t simply to build a deck.
It’s to create another place to live.
Built by Canopy Builders
Canopy Builders, led by Tim Solano, was selected to build the deck for the 2026 Southern Living Idea House alongside a team that included Kurk Homes and Mustard Architects.
We’re incredibly proud to see the finished project and to have our craftsmanship represented in a home that celebrates great Texas design.
